My belly hates me.

Without giving TMI, I want to apologize to anyone who's going to host me for dinner any time in the future.

Due to stomach issues I never really paid attention to until recently (combined with my previous ethical eating decisions), I am now going on a super-restrictive diet:

*No gluten allowed. This means no wheat, barley, or rye. (Good thing I don't like beer - but it's too bad for my love of bread, pasta, and all things carb-related...)

*No dairy allowed. (Since I was avoiding it anyway for ethical reasons, this isn't too bad, but I really do love milk and cheese, and would have it whenever I could get organic versions of it...)

*No red meat allowed. (Farewell, Hero Burger!)

*No chocolate allowed. :( :( :( :(

*No alcohol allowed. (!)

*No caffeine allowed. (I don't drink coffee or pop anyway, so this isn't too big a deal - I'll just avoid chai from now on.)

*No carbonated beverages allowed. (Meh.)

*No artificial sweeteners allowed.

*Avoid fat as much as possible.

*Avoid vegetables and lentils like: cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, beans, onions, carrots (?) (and more)

*Avoid fruits like: bananas, apples, cherries, oranges (?) (and their juices)

And that's about it. But it doesn't leave much, does it? I mean, it should be good for my waistline, but I really love to cook, and this is going to create some challenges (I foresee a lot more fish in my future!).

Anyway, I'll probably try going off all of this in a really strict way at first, then try reintroducing some of this stuff back into my diet to see if I can handle it...

So.... yeah... I apologize in advance to anyone and everyone who might have me over to dinner in the future. When I was restricting my diet for ethical reasons, I made exceptions whenever I was a guest - but now that it's actually also for health reasons.... Sorry :(

DCH.

What My Life Is Like Right Now:

I am currently answering phones and selling tickets to documentary films at North America's largest documentary film festival.

It's pretty amazing how crazy people can get about documentaries.

And along with working 5 days a week doing that, I'm also working on my days off at my part-time job at the bookstore, just to keep that job.

So, in essence, I've been working 7 days a week since March 15th (about 7 weeks!).

I am so looking forward to sleeping in on May 11th! And May 12th. And May 13th...

  1. Okay, so given that you just described like 75% of what I eat/drink, we are going to have some challenges... but we shall overcome.

For example, we can still have tasty salads with berries and nuts. You can still have rooibos tea. I will just eat your chocolates for you!

Also, since I live on top of a grocery store, you can go to pick out whatever you want anytime.

So, when are you coming over for dinner? :)

PS I am going to try to go to a film tomorrow... any recommendations (that aren't sold out)?

  2. Did you make this decision on your own Diane? Or did you see a doctor/dietitian?

  3. Wow, that sounds like the diet advice people gave me when I was nursing my son and he was screaming all the time. "Just give up fruit, vegetables, carbs, and protein." Okay... so what are you allowed to eat? Is water okay? :)
Hopefully you'll feel so much better, you won't mind giving up certain foods.
